How gently falls the snow – winter in Rodeneck
Rodeneck is a village of 1,200 souls southeast of Mühlbach in the Gitschberg Jochtal Ski and Holiday Area. As sunny as it is picturesque, Rodeneck is one of those places that radiate a sense of tranquillity, where people are friendly and hospitable and eager to tell visitors all sorts of interesting things about South Tyrol. The village, which is also called Rodengo in Italian, is guarded by Castle Rodenegg, a 12th-century fortress that towers over the Rienz Gorge. Not far from Rodeneck lies the vast Rodenecker-Lüsner Alp – a Mecca for passionate hikers and sun worshippers.
In winter, the Rodenecker-Lüsner Alp offers a fabulous snowscape for your outdoor pursuits. Covered in soft, pure snow, and surrounded by equally snow-powdered mountains, the meadows glisten in the sun, and the only sound you can hear is the crunching under your soles. The perfect setting for a winter walk to one of the many huts or for cross-country skiing. The panoramic cross-country ski trail leading across the alpine pastures is especially popular. Rodeneck is also an ideal destination for a ski holiday with children, as the Gitschberg Jochtal ski resort is only a 20-minute drive away, and the many winter paths in the area are mostly child-friendly.
If you are a couple looking for a romantic destination for your winter holidays, rest assured: with its idyllic surroundings, Rodeneck won’t disappoint you either!
