The Rodenecker-Lüsner Alp – unbounded views of nature
Here’s a foretaste
The Rodenecker-Lüsner Alp extends over 20 km² at an altitude of 1,500 to 2,200 metres above the Eisacktal valley. Along with the Seiser Alp, it’s one of the largest high-mountain plateaus in Europe.

Imagine indulging with traditional South Tyrolean specialities while you take in the fantastic view of the Zillertal, Ötztal and Stubai Alps, Mt. Großglockner and the Geisler and Brenta ranges! And if that is not enough, from the Rodenecker-Lüsner Alp you can continue and climb up to the Astjoch pass at an altitude of 2,194 metres. Another favourite tour among our guests is the multi-day, high-mountain excursion on the Dolorama trail. If you are in the mood for a more leisurely and contemplative walk, the plateau offers you the Creation trail, an experience designed to make the visitor “see, feel and wonder”. The starting point is by the Zumis car park. From there, the path leads to the Pianer Kreuz chapel. Various works of art along the way portray the stages of creation, inviting the wanderer to pause and contemplate.
To add a sprinkle of romance to your experience, what about a dinner under the full moon on the Rodenecker-Lüsner Alp? Savour home-made specialities by candlelight and moonlight and listen to the exciting stories our hiking guide has to tell.
The Rodenecker-Lüsner Alp in detail
Wandering around the Rodenecker-Lüsner Alp in winter, you’d half expect to bump into Snow White at some point. The landscape is wrapped in a white mantle that shimmers under the sun, and everything is immersed in a state of spell-bound tranquillity. As you negotiate your way along carefully manicured paths in the snow, you can spot the tracks left by the wildlife here and there, and the only sound you hear is the soft, rhythmic crunch under your soles. Unsurprisingly, the Rodenecker-Lüsner Alp is a sought-after winter destination for cross-country skiers and hikers, with its panoramic paths and cross-country trails.
One we especially recommend is the tour leading from the Zumis car park, passing the Oberhauserhütte hut, to the Roner Alp pasture along the Creation trail and a large forest road. It takes about 50 minutes to get to Roner Alp. Once there, if you feel like exploring a bit more you can follow the path to the Rastnerhütte or Starkenfeldhütte hut, where your senses will be spoilt by tasty South Tyrolean fare and a mind-blowing panorama.
